RG Kar Hospital’s ex-principal Sandip Ghosh and former police officer Abhijit Mondal was granted bail on Friday by a Kolkata court in connection with the doctor rape-murder case.
The Sealdah Court granted bail to Tala police station’s former officer in charge, Abhijit Mondal, and RG Kar Medical College’s ex-principal, Sandip Ghosh, since the CBI was unable to file the chargesheet within 90 days.
Sandip Ghosh was detained after a trainee doctor was discovered dead in the chest department auditorium at RG Kar Medical College & Hospital on August 10. Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer, reportedly raped and murdered the doctor on the intervening night of August 9-10.
Sandip Ghosh was also under investigation in the case for allegedly delaying the probe. In the meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court ordered an investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the hospital during his tenure.
The High Court ruling came on a plea by the former deputy superintendent of the institution, Akhtar Ali, who asked for an investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into various charges of suspected financial impropriety at the institute during Ghosh’s stint as its principal
