Finland To Strengthen Ukraine’s Air Defense, Says President Stubb In Conversation With Zelenskyy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, had a telephonic conversation on Friday to discuss helping Ukraine strengthen its Air Defence.

The Presidents discussed Russia’s large-scale morning attack on Ukraine’s energy sector, which is considered one of the largest Russian assaults, involving 94 missiles of various types, including both cruise and ballistic missiles. This prompted both Presidents to emphasize Ukraine’s urgent need for air defense, with President Stubb showcasing his readiness to enhance support in this area.

President Zelensky, through his account on X, thanked President Stubb for his unwavering support for Ukraine’s Independence and said, “I expressed my gratitude to President Stubb and the Finnish people for their principled and unwavering support for Ukraine’s independence and our people. I also thanked Finland for its readiness to enhance our air defense capabilities.”

President Zelensky also emphasized the importance of Finland’s support for Ukraine’s sovereign right to choose its future free of outside interference, including Ukraine’s choice to join the EU and NATO. With reference to security guarantees from Finland, Zelensky said, “We also agreed on the need to provide Ukraine with real and effective security guarantees in order to ensure stability and lasting peace.
