Former Haryana Chief Minister and Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Om Prakash Chautala passed away at the age of 89 at this residence in Gurugram suffering a cardiac arrest on Friday.

OP Chautala, the son of India’s sixth Deputy Prime Minister, Devi Lal, has served as the Chief Minister of Haryana five times. He has also been jailed several times for recruitment scams and disproportionate assets cases. Following his sentence in 2022, he holds the record for being the oldest prisoner of Tihar Jail in Delhi.

Condolences have poured in following the news of his death. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, taking to his account on X, wrote, “The news of the demise of former Haryana Chief Minister and senior leader Chaudhary Om Prakash Chautala is sad. He significantly contributed to the service of Haryana and the country.”
