Speculations around Bollywood veteran Govinda and his wife Sunita Ahuja’s marriage once again made headlines this week after reports surfaced that Sunita had filed for divorce in December 2024. The reports, citing alleged reasons of adultery, cruelty, and desertion, caused a stir among fans and the media. However, the actor’s manager and lawyer have strongly dismissed the rumours, clarifying that the matter is not as sensational as it appears.
Manager Denies Divorce Speculations
Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, addressed the reports in an interview, terming them “old news.” He explained that while Sunita had indeed filed a petition months ago, the situation has since changed, and the couple is working on their differences.
“This is the same old news which came out six-seven months ago. Sunita had filed a divorce petition six-seven months ago, now everything is getting settled. In a week or so, everyone will hear the news,” Sinha said.
He further revealed that the family will be celebrating the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival together, with Sunita herself leading the preparations. The manager emphasized that the couple has no immediate plans of separation and are instead moving towards reconciliation.
Lawyer Calls Reports “Misleading”
Govinda’s lawyer, Lalit Bindal, echoed the same sentiment and called the latest wave of divorce headlines “misleading and repetitive.” Bindal reiterated that the matter being circulated in the media stems from old developments, which are now being resolved.
“Sunita had cited misunderstandings when the petition was initially filed. However, those issues are being worked out, and there is no finality to the divorce matter,” Bindal explained.
Both Govinda and Sunita have not issued any direct statements regarding the renewed speculation, choosing to stay away from media commentary.
Marriage Under Scrutiny Since Early 2024
The 38-year-long marriage of Govinda and Sunita has faced public scrutiny ever since the first reports of a possible separation appeared in February 2024. At that time, their legal representatives confirmed that Sunita had approached the court, but Govinda’s team maintained that the situation was exaggerated.
The manager had then said that the couple was only experiencing disagreements, mainly concerning the actor’s film projects and personal commitments. Despite this, Sunita gave interviews suggesting deep-seated discord, even remarking that she would not wish to marry Govinda in her next life.
Govinda, however, has avoided direct acknowledgment of marital strain, often dismissing questions by saying such discussions are part of “business talks.”

Married since 1987, Govinda and Sunita have been one of Bollywood’s most admired couples. They share two children, Tina Ahuja, an actress, and Yashvardhan Ahuja, who has stayed away from the limelight.
Govinda, fondly remembered as the “90s Comedy King” for blockbuster films like Coolie No.1, Hero No.1, and Raja Babu, has had a career filled with highs and lows. While his last major film appearance was in Rangeela Raja (2019), the actor re-emerged into public life in 2024 after joining Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena, marking his return to politics.

Despite the speculations, Govinda’s manager assured fans that the family will be seen together during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, which are significant for the actor and his wife.
“The entire family is gearing up for the festivities, and Sunita is busy with preparations. That itself shows where things stand,” Sinha added.
As things currently stand, the much-loved Bollywood couple appears to be focusing on reconciliation rather than separation. With both legal and personal representatives clarifying the situation, fans will likely see the family united during the upcoming festival season.
For now, the divorce rumours may have been put to rest, but whether the couple’s marital issues are completely resolved remains to be seen in the coming months.
