Kapil Sharma’s Café in Canada Attacked by Extremists, No Injuries Reported.
In a shocking incident that has left the South Asian community reeling, comedian Kapil Sharma’s newly opened restaurant, KAP’S CAFE, in Surrey, British Columbia (Canada), was targeted in a gunfire attack late Wednesday night. According to preliminary reports, multiple rounds were fired at the establishment. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The attack is suspected to be linked to Khalistani extremists. Harjit Singh Laddi, an alleged member of the banned terrorist group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), claimed responsibility for the shooting. In a video circulated on social media, Laddi cited past remarks allegedly made by Sharma about the traditional attire of Nihang Singhs as the motive behind the act.

Authorities in Canada acted swiftly, sealing off the area and launching a full-scale investigation. Local police have increased surveillance in the neighborhood and are examining security footage to identify the attackers. Surrey RCMP confirmed the incident and stated that investigators are pursuing leads involving extremist connections.

KAP’S CAFE had only recently opened its doors and was quickly becoming a hotspot among the Indian diaspora in the Greater Vancouver Area. Known for its cozy ambiance, South Asian fusion menu, and celebrity appeal, the café was seen as a symbol of Kapil Sharma’s evolving entrepreneurial pursuits abroad.

On Friday, the café issued a heartfelt statement via Instagram, expressing resilience in the face of violence. “We opened Kap’s Cafe with hopes of bringing warmth, community, and joy through delicious coffee and friendly conversation. To have violence intersect with that dream is heartbreaking. We are processing this shock, but we are not giving up,” read the post.

The statement continued, “Thank you for your support. Your kind words, prayers, and memories shared via DM mean more than you know. This café exists because of your belief in what we’re building together. Let’s stand firm against violence and ensure Kap’s Cafe remains a place of warmth and community.”

While Kapil Sharma himself has not yet made a direct public statement regarding the attack, sources close to the comedian say he is “deeply disturbed” by the incident and is monitoring the situation closely from India.

The attack has reignited discussions around extremist threats and diaspora safety in Canada. Tensions have been rising in recent months, particularly with the growing visibility of Khalistani separatist sympathizers in parts of British Columbia and Ontario. Experts say this attack could mark a dangerous escalation in targeting Indian-origin celebrities abroad.

Leaders from both Canada and India condemned the attack. Community figures in Surrey organized a small solidarity gathering outside the café, where candles were lit and messages of support were left for the staff and ownership.

The Indian High Commission in Ottawa has been briefed on the incident and is reportedly in touch with local authorities to ensure the safety of Indian nationals in the area.

While no suspects have yet been apprehended, police are urging anyone with information to come forward. The motive, while not officially confirmed by investigators, is being probed as a hate-driven act potentially tied to ongoing tensions between pro-Khalistani elements and prominent Indian figures.

KAP’S CAFE remains temporarily closed as forensic teams complete their assessment. However, the owners have vowed to reopen soon. As the Instagram statement concluded, “We may have been shaken, but we’re not backing down.”

The attack marks a disturbing intersection of politics, celebrity, and diaspora life—one that highlights the vulnerabilities faced by high-profile Indian figures abroad in the shadow of rising extremism.
