The FBI reported that Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a Texas resident and US citizen, was operating a Ford F-150 electric pickup truck flying the Islamic State flag. The FBI also stated that it was investigating his possible ties to terrorist groups after New Orleans New Year attack.
A search of the suspect’s vehicle uncovered guns and pipe bombs hidden in coolers. The explosive devices were wired for remote detonation, with a remote control found in the vehicle, according to the State Police bulletin, revealing a potentially deadly setup.
The US President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday night that the FBI had discovered videos that Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a US Army veteran who killed at least 15 people in New Orleans on Wednesday when he drove a pickup truck into a crowd of New Year’s revelers, had uploaded to social media hours prior to the attack, claiming he was motivated by the Islamic State group and that he wanted to kill.
According to New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick, Shamsud-Din Jabbar was shot and killed by police when he got out of the truck and started shooting at oncoming cops. Three policemen fired back. Two are in stable condition after being shot.
Shamsud-Din Jabbar had uploaded films to the internet hours prior, “indicating that he was inspired by ISIS,” according to Joe Biden, who called the attack “despicable.”
Addressing the nation, Biden, “My heart goes out to the victims and their families who were simply trying to celebrate the holiday,” “There is no justification for violence of any kind, and we will not tolerate any attack on any of our nation’s communities.”
According to the FBI, the murderer was a Texas-born American citizen. He spent many years as an active-duty member of the US Army. Few years ago, he was also a member of the Army Reserve.
Additionally, the FBI informed that just hours prior to the attack, he shared videos on social media expressing a desire to kill and claiming that he was inspired by ISIS. His car, which he borrowed to carry out this attack, contained the ISIS flag. Additional explosives were discovered close by, and there were perhaps possibly explosives in the car.
The US president provided an update on the early investigations, saying, “The investigation is still ongoing, and no one should make hasty judgments.”
