Hamas has ratified that it will discharge four Israeli women hostages on Saturday in exchange for Palestinian prisoners, Hamas official Taher al-Nunu stated. This will be the second such exchange under the ongoing truce deal between Hamas and Israel.
Nunu told reporters on Tuesday that the Palestinian Islamist movement would release “four Israeli female hostages in exchange” for a group of Palestinian prisoners.
The declaration comes after the earlier ambiguity over the timing of the release. Earlier this week, Nahed Al-Fakhouri, head of Hamas’ prisoners’ media office, had said that detainees would be freed on Sunday, a day later than initially planned.
Over the coming weeks, Hamas is anticipated to free more than 90 hostages as part of this deal, while Israel will release Palestinian prisoners and hostages in exchange.
Hamas had earlier declared that the next group of detainees would be released seven days after the ceasefire came into effect, with Saturday now confirmed as the planned date for the release.
This exchange follows the previous discharge of hostages under the terms of the ceasefire agreement made earlier this month.
