The arrest of Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq in connection with the violence that broke out in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, during an inspection of a mosque from the Mughal era was delayed by the Allahabad high court on Friday. The FIR against him for allegedly inciting violence during the survey at Shahi Jama Masjid, however, was not dismissed by the court.
Ziaur Rahman Barq, a member of parliament (MP) for the Samajwadi Party, is dealing with an increasing number of legal and administrative issues after the district authorities issued a third and final warning about the unlawful construction of his property in Sambhal’s Muhalla Deepa Sarai region. Following the expiration of the two previous notices, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vandana Mishra issued this notice, which requires compliance by January 4, 2025.
After Barq filed a plea, a bench of Justices Rajiv Gupta and Azahar Husain Idrisi issued the ruling. The court ordered the MP to comply with the authorities and decided that the inquiry against Barq will continue after hearing arguments from his attorney, Imran Ullah, and the other government representative.
The order was passed by a bench of Justices Rajiv Gupta and Azahar Husain Idrisi on a petition filed by Barq, after hearing his counsel Imran Ullah and the additional government advocate. In its ruling, the court requested cooperation from the Member of Parliament and stated that the investigation against Barq will continue.
Following the clashes in Sambhal city on November 24, which broke out following a court-ordered study of the 500-year-old Jama Masjid, Barq was mentioned in a formal complaint that was submitted.
Four people were killed and several injured in the fighting, and one more person died subsequently. Police have detained a number of people in relation to the disturbances.
