Allu Arjun the Telugu superstar, star of Pushpa franchise has been given interim bail by Telangana high court in connection with the stampede at the Hyderabad premiere of his movies in in Sandhya theatre.
The court declared that as citizen Arjun’s also has fundamental rights to life and liberty, regardless of his celebrity status. This high court verdict brings a wave of relief over the actor and his fans as he was sent to jail for 14 days by a local court.
The stampede at the Sandhya theatre resulted in the death of a 39 year old woman and left her minor son critically injured. For this allu was taken to court and was given 14 days jail time.
However the high court rejected the argument that allu was responsible for the tragedy, that he had taken permission to attend the premiere and was not aware of potential risk.
The judge also said that the police has confirmed receiving prior information about Arjun’s visit, contradicting the prosecution’s claims that he had not informed them.
