N Biren Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur, apologized to the state’s citizens and said, “I feel regret” for the ethnic violence that has shook the region since May 2023.He expressed hope that the state, which has been plagued by intercommunal violence for more than a year, would experience calm in the coming year. ‘Forget past mistakes’ and move on, he urged the state’s citizens.
In the upcoming months, he also anticipated that things would return to normal. He added that after observing the peace development over the past three to four months, he expects that peace will return to the state in 2025. He further stated that he would like to remind every community in the state that whatever occurred has already occurred. All must now move on from past mistakes and begin a new life. “We should all coexist in a prosperous and peaceful Manipur,” CM Biren Singh stated.
CM said that about 200 people have perished, 12,247 FIRs have been filed, and 625 offenders have been arrested so far while sharing the specifics of the violence. Approximately 35,000 rounds of ammunition and 5,600 weapons, including explosives, were found. There has been good progress in addressing the problems. According to Singh, the central government has allocated sufficient finances and security personnel to assist the displaced family and build new homes for them.
Meanwhile, during a search operation in Manipur’s Imphal West district, security personnel found a massive stash of weapons and ammunition, according to authorities on Tuesday. According to the officials, among the confiscated goods are hand grenades, firearms, rifles, a carbine, and handguns.
