Delhi received moderate to heavy rainfall since early morning on Friday, resulting in a drop in temperature. The India Meteorological Department(IMD) has also issued a hailstorm alert in the region.
IMD stated, “Due to interaction of Western Disturbance with easterly winds over central parts of India, light to moderate rainfall/thunderstorm accompanied with hailstorm very likely over Northwest & Central India on 27th & 28th December, 2024.”
- The IMD has also issued an alert of light thunderstorms in Delhi on its website notifying about a maximum surface wind speed of less than 40 kmph. Low cloud-to-ground Lightning probability (<30% probability of lightning occurrence) and a moderate rain of 5-15 mm/hr. It has also issued an ‘Orange alert’ for Friday and a ‘Yellow alert’ for Saturday.
Traffic has been disrupted due to rain in many parts of South, Central, and North Delhi. The Delhi University’s North Campus area recorded the highest rainfall with low-lying areas being water-logged.
