India China Relations Have Improved: S Jaishankar In Lok Sabha

Today, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, while speaking in the Lok Sabha threw light on how Indo-Chinese relationship has grown rapidly. He emphasized on the government’s commitment to sustained diplomatic engagement with Beijing. “India remains committed to a fair, reasonable, and mutually acceptable settlement of the boundary issue through bilateral talks,” he stated.

He advocated that the October agreement on patrolling protocols along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) proves the resolution of several border issues. The minister admitted that the tensions brewed earlier in 2020, and logistics challenges were still there, later on the armed forces of India worked to combat it peacefully. Both the countries have opened the door for talks about de-escalation and thus, improved LAC activity management.

He emphasized the government’s steadfast commitment to safeguarding national security interests while working toward a just and amicable settlement of the boundary dispute. Highlighting the next steps, Jaishankar gave an update on his recent meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during which they decided to call for the gathering of mechanisms at the foreign secretary and special representative levels.

Jaishankar detailed significant progress made during recent military and diplomatic dialogues.
