Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reconfirmed India’s commitment to taking the lead in Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a focus on innovation, development, and creating new opportunities for the youth.

The Prime Minister’s declaration came in response to a post by Vishal Sikka, who met Narendra Modi today. Sikka described the meeting as a privilege and said, “It was a privilege to meet the Hon. Prime Minister Sh. @narendramodi for a detailed and wide-ranging discussion on AI, its impact on India, and several imperatives for the time ahead. I left the meeting both inspired and humbled by his extraordinary grasp of technology’s impact on all of us and how its use with democratic values can uplift everyone”.

Vishal Sikka is a famous technician with a degree in computer science from Gujarat University and a Ph.D. in AI from Stanford University. He was Infosys’s first non-founder CEO, changing the company into a tech-driven organisation. He launched several initiatives like ‘zero distance’ and Infosys Mana. He resigned from Infosys in 2017 due to some corporate disagreement.

The Union cabinet has approved a comprehensive national-level IndiaAI mission in March last year, with a budget of Rs. 10,371.92 crore. This mission seeks to drive responsible and inclusive growth of AI in the Indian ecosystem.

The key objectives of the IndiaAI mission are to democratise computing access, improve data quality, develop indigenous AI capabilities, attract top AI talent, and enable industry collaboration. The mission will be implemented by the IndiaAI independent business division under the Digital India Corporation (DIC).
