India-Liberia FOC: Review Bilateral Ties

India and Liberia divulged in discussions over key areas such as trade, investment, mining, agriculture, health, education, and people-to-people exchanges.

In a momentous move to bolster bilateral ties, India and Liberia held their first-ever foreign office consultation (FOC) in Monrovia, Liberia, on December 17, 2024. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Sevala Naik Mude, additional secretary, ministry of External Affairs, and H.E. Mrs. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, minister of foreign affairs, republic of Liberia.

The meeting was attended by key Minister of both sides, H.E Mr. Jeremiah Kpan Koung, honorable Vice President; H.E. Dr. Louise M. Kpoto, Minister Of Health And Social Welfare; H.E. Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, Minister of Agriculture and H.E. Madam Magdalene Ellen Dagoseh, Minister of commerce and industry of the Republic of Liberia. During the meeting, Liberian ministers expressed their gratitude for India’s efforts in making the African Union a permanent member of the G20.

They divulged in discussions over key areas such as trade, investment, mining, agriculture, health, education, and people-to-people exchanges. They agreed to further deepen and diversify bilateral ties in digital public infrastructure, energy development, and development cooperation.

India and Liberia have also agreed to mutually support each other’s bids for non-permanent membership on the United Nations Security Council for the term 2028-29. This move is seen as a significant step in strengthening their bilateral ties.

The two nations have agreed to convene the next round of Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi, with the exact date to be determined through mutual consultation. This ongoing dialogue is expected to further solidify the relationship between India and Liberia.
