Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri in a meeting with the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi in Dubai on Wednesday discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, security developments, and humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
Emphasizing the historic friendship between India and Afghanistan and the strong people-to-people contact between the two countries, the Foreign Secretary expressed India’s readiness to assist the Afghan people with their developmental needs through active participation in developmental projects.
Both countries have reached a consensus on the promotion of Chabahar port for assisting trade and commercial activities along with humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan.
The Afghan minister expressed his gratitude for India’s support to their country. As a part of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, India has dispatched several shipments consisting of 50,000 MTs of wheat, 300 tons of medicines, 27 tons of earthquake relief aid, 40,000 litres of pesticides, 100 million polio doses, 1.5 million doses of COVID Vaccine, 11,000 units of hygiene kits for the drug de-addiction programme, 500 units of winter clothing and 1.2 tons of stationery kits, etc.
India has agreed to provide material support in the health sector and the rehabilitation of refugees. Strengthening of the young generation’s cherished sports (cricket) cooperation has also been discussed by the two sides.
Regarding India’s security concern Afghan side emphasized its sensitivities towards it with both sides consented to be in regular contact with each other at various levels.
