Ahead of the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar on Tuesday announced the prospect for India, the largest democracy in the world to set a new record of having one billion-plus voters.
Billion Plus Voters
CEC Kumar revealed that as per the electoral rolls released yesterday, India has already passed the legion of 99 crore voters.
He claimed that, following the declaration of the special summary revision (SSR) by Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, and Punjab today, India will surpass the milestone of one billion voters. Women voters are also expected to surpass the mark of 48 crores.
Delhi Elections:
Kumar announced that the voting for the Delhi elections would be held in a single phase across all 70 constituencies. The schedule for the elections is as follows:
- Date of Issue of Gazette Notifications: January 10 (Friday)
- Last Date of Making Nominations: January 17 (Friday)
- Date of Scrutiny of Nominations: January 18 (Saturday)
- Last Date for Withdrawal for Candidates: January 20 (Monday)
- Date of Poll: February 5 (Wednesday)
- Date of counting: February 8 (Saturday)
