In Bengaluru, an eight-month-old infant was found to have the HMPV virus. The instance was discovered at the city’s Baptist hospital. According to the government’s state health department, the sample was not examined at their laboratory.

According to a health department source, “the reports have come from a private hospital and we have no reason to doubt the tests of private hospitals.” As per the state health department, the infant and its family had no history of recent travel. Also, the child did not show any symptoms of concern. According to the sources, the sample has not yet undergone laboratory testing by the government and so it’s not confirmed.

Human metapneumovirus, or HMPV, is typically seen in children under the age of eleven and is present in 0.7% of all flu samples. Since we do not yet have information on the viral strain found in China, pending confirmation.

HMPV is disseminated via droplets or aerosols produced by coughing, sneezing, and close contact with infected people, just like COVID-19.

Fever, trouble breathing, congestion in the nose, coughing, sore throat, and headaches are typical symptoms. Doctors have cautioned, meanwhile, that the virus may cause pneumonia or bronchitis in certain people.

Since there is currently no vaccination or effective therapy for HMPV, the primary goal of treatment is to reduce symptoms. On January 4, the Karnataka Health Department declared that no HMPV cases had been reported in the state.
