Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his first public statement after the ‘collapse of the Assad regime’ has called it a ‘Historic day for the Middle East’.

PM Netanyahu, taking to his account on X, shared a video message along with the following statement, “This is a historic day for the Middle East. The collapse of the Assad regime, the tyranny in Damascus, offers great opportunity but also is fraught with significant dangers. We send a hand of peace to all those beyond our border in Syria: to the Druze, to the Kurds, to the Christians, and to the Muslims who want to live in peace with Israel.”.

Netanyahu vowed to closely monitor Syria’s situation and take necessary actions to safeguard Israel’s border and security amid rising tensions in the region.

PM Netanyahu further said that the collapse of the Assad regime is a historic day for the Middle East but it also possesses dangers. He mentioned that this is the result of Israel’s forceful action towards Assad’s main supporters, Hezbollah and Iran which led to this transition of power.

He emphasized the need to address the threats arising from the collapse of the Separation of Forces Agreement of 1974 between Israel and Syria, which was designed to prevent hostile forces from establishing themselves near their borders.

He emphasized that Israel intends to maintain good and peaceful neighbourly relations with all its neighbors like the Druzs, The Kurds, the Christians, the Muslims, and the new forces emerging in Syria. Further, he mentioned that Israel is ready to defend the state of Israel and the border of Israel at all costs.
