Two Palestinian militants were killed by Israeli soldiers earlier this month for carrying out a fatal attack on a bus in the West Bank.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, Israel’s massive military assault in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin on Tuesday resulted in at least six fatalities and 35 injuries. A “significant and broad military operation” against Palestinian militants in the city was declared by Israel.

Even before the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas sparked the war in Gaza, Jenin had experienced numerous Israeli invasions and gunfights with militants in recent years.

The latest operation took place just days into a fragile six-week ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza, which calls for the release of 33 hostages held by militants in exchange for hundreds of Palestinians detained by Israel.

During the 1967 Mideast War, Israel took control of the West Bank, Gaza, and east Jerusalem. The Palestinians want all three areas to be part of their own state.
