Japan Airlines Hit by Cyberattack, Flights And Sales Disrupted

Japan Airlines has announced that it is experiencing technical difficulties due to a system malfunction. The issue, which began at 7:24 am, is affecting the network equipment that connects the airline with its customers. As a result, flights have been delayed, and ticket sales have been temporarily halted. The airline is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible and apologize for any inconvenience caused to its passengers.

The Kyoto News agency reported Japan Airlines (JAL) experienced a cyberattack on Thursday, resulting in delays of up to an hour for almost 14 domestic and international flights which led to the cancellation of ticket sales. As per the reports, issues started early in the morning around 7:24 am, leading to a temporary discontinuation of ticket sales. Passengers who had advance ticket bookings were informed that their bookings were valid despite the disturbances caused.

Posting on X, Japan Airlines stated the issue: “A system malfunction has been occurring in the network equipment that connects the company and its customers since 7:24 a.m. today. This is expected to affect both domestic and international flights. We will notify you in our next announcement as soon as we have confirmed the situation. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

The airline added, “We identified the cause of the problem at 8:56 and took action. We are currently checking the system recovery status. In addition, sales have been suspended for domestic and international flights departing today.”

The airline was able to shut down the router successfully. The metropolitan police Department has been informed regarding the issue and further investigation has been initiated according to the Kyoto news agency.
