Polling for the 43 out of 81 assembly constituencies began at 7 am today, finally witnesses the phase 1 of Jharkhand elections. The first phase of the Jharkhand Election 2024 has seen a significant voter turnout, with 46.25% of voters casting their ballots by 1 pm. With an astounding 52.1% attendance, Gumla is in first place, followed by Lohardaga (51.5%) and Khunti (51.3%).

Voters at Prathmik Vidyala Sonapi turned out in force, despite the threat posed by the Naxals. Naxalite attempted to block the path and erected posters. By 11 AM, 60% of voters had cast ballots at polling station number 25 in Sonapi, Jagannathpur AC, West Singhbhum, Jharkhand, after security personnel had successfully taken down the posters and other barriers.

Once a Naxal stronghold, Budha Pahar is seeing the dawn of a new era of democracy with long lines, applauding faces, and peaceful voting at UMS Hesatu in Bargad Garhwa. In the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, a polling station was established for the first time, allowing voters to cast ballots in their local communities, according to the CEO of Jharkhand.

“Due to intense anti-Naxal operation being conducted in the region and establishment of CRPF camps in Regdahatu, Tirilpasi and Boroi, voters on at least 20 polling booths exercised their franchise for the first time in the last 20 years,” said Chaibasa SP Ashutosh Shekhar.
