Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his heartfelt condolences on the passing of former US President Jimmy Carter, describing him as a “statesman of great vision” who worked tirelessly for global peace and harmony.

In a statement, PM Modi said he was “deeply saddened” by Carter’s demise, highlighting his contributions to fostering strong India-US ties, which “leave a lasting legacy”. Modi’s tribute acknowledged Carter’s efforts to promote global peace and harmony, as well as his role in strengthening relations between India and the US.

Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the US, passed away at the age of 100 on Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia. During his presidency, Carter achieved several notable milestones, including the signing of the Camp David Accords, which led to a peace treaty between Israel and Egypt.

Carter’s connection to India dates back to 1978 when he visited the country as US President, meeting with then-President Neelam Sanjiva Reddy and then-Prime Minister Morarji Desai. He also addressed the Parliament of India during his visit.
