The Waqf (Amendment) Bill’s Joint Parliamentary Committee accepted all of the changes put forth by the ruling BJP-led NDA lawmakers and rejected all of the changes made by opposition members on monday.

Following the meeting, committee chairman Jagdambika Pal assured reporters that the committee’s revisions will improve and strengthen the law.

Opposition MPs, meanwhile, criticized the meeting’s conduct and charged Pal with “subverting” democracy. The exercise was absurd. They didn’t listen to us. Reporters were told by TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee that Pal had behaved in an autocratic way.

Pal denied the accusation, claiming that the majority opinion won out and that the entire process was democratic.

One of the committee’s most important changes is that if the properties are being utilized for religious reasons, they cannot be questioned on the grounds of “Waqf by user,” which was present in the current law but will not be included in the new version.

According to Pal, the NDA members’ revisions to clause 14 of the bill have been approved. He stated that hundreds of amendments were proposed by opposition members in all 44 provisions, but they were all rejected by a vote.
