On Saturday, Arvind Kejriwal convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a press conference of attempting to undermine his party’s Mahila Samman Yojana with a baseless investigation. The press conference was held after the LG ordered an inquiry into AAP’s drive to enrol women and senior citizens for the Mahila Samman Yojana and Sanjeevani scheme, respectively.
The party promised Rs 2,100 to all women aged above 18 years who fulfil other eligibility criteria and free treatment for all Delhi voters aged above 60 years in state-run and private hospitals if re-elected to power in the upcoming assembly polls in the capital. Kejriwal asserted that the welfare schemes, such as the Mahila Samman Card and Sanjeevani Yojna, are electoral promises, not implemented programs.
“What is there to investigate? These are promises we’ve made for after we win the elections,” he said, urging Delhi residents to continue registering for these initiatives. Kejriwal alleged that BJP leaders sent “goons” to disrupt AAP’s registration camps and involved the Delhi Police to halt the registration process.
Kejriwal added that BJP and Congress joined hands this time to stop AAP, and the inquiry was ordered by the LG on the complaint of former East Delhi MP and Congress candidate from the New Delhi assembly constituency, Sandeep Dikshit.
“Trust me, despite all the opposition, I will ensure that the Mahila Samman Yojana to provide Rs 2,100 to women and the Sanjeevani Yojana will be implemented in the capital after the elections, the way I implemented all other free schemes,” the former Delhi CM said.
