Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a historic visit to Kuwait, attending the opening ceremony of the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup as the ‘Guest of Honour’ of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in 43 years.

At the grand opening ceremony, PM Modi joined the Amir, the Crown Prince, and the Prime Minister of Kuwait, witnessing the start of the prestigious football tournament. The event also provided an opportunity for PM Modi to interact informally with Kuwait’s leadership, strengthening bilateral ties.

The Arabian Gulf Cup is a biennial tournament featuring eight countries, including GCC nations, Iraq, and Yemen. As one of the most prominent sporting events in the region, Kuwait has won the tournament a record number of times. PM Modi extended his best wishes to all participating countries, promoting a spirit of friendship and sportsmanship.

During his visit, PM Modi also addressed the Indian diaspora in Kuwait, highlighting the strong bonds between India and Kuwait. He emphasized India’s growth and transformation, particularly in technology, infrastructure, and sustainability, and invited the diaspora to participate in upcoming events in India, such as the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas and Maha Kumbh.
