West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on December 6, voiced her displeasure with the way the INDIA bloc was operating and indicated that, if given the chance, she would take leadership of the alliance. After her statement, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and former Union minister Lalu Prasad Yadav supported Mamata’s mark on the INDIA Bloc. He voiced his opinion and stated that any objections from Congress are irrelevant.

RJD chief Lalu Prasad backed Mamata Banerjee to head the INDIA Bloc alliance. Days after Banerjee declared her intention to lead the anti-BJP coalition, he made this remark. Prasad added that it would “not make any difference” if the Congress, a significant ally of the INDIA Bloc grouping, had any misgivings about recognizing Banerjee as the head of the opposition front.

Supporting him, senior RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav had said he had “no objection to any senior leader of the INDIA bloc, including Banerjee, leading the coalition”, but stressed that the decision must be universal. Mamata Banerjee’s willingness to lead the INDIA coalition is significant, according to Shiv Sena (UBT) Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, who acknowledged her prior contributions.
