Shocking Assault at Amity University, Lucknow
A disturbing incident of student violence at Amity University, Lucknow, has surfaced after a video showing a law student being slapped multiple times by his classmates went viral. The victim, identified as Shikhar Mukesh Kesarwani, a second-year BA LLB student, was allegedly assaulted inside a vehicle at the university’s parking lot on August 26. The video, lasting 101 seconds, has sparked widespread outrage on social media, raising serious questions about campus safety and student conduct.
Complaint by Victim’s Father
According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed on the basis of a complaint by Shikhar’s father, Mukesh Kesarwani, five students have been named as accused: Ayush Yadav, Jahnvi Mishra, Milay Banerjee, Vivek Singh, and Aryaman Shukla. The complaint alleges that his son was subjected to relentless physical and verbal abuse that lasted nearly 45 minutes, leaving him traumatised and unable to attend college since the incident.
Mukesh detailed that his son had recently undergone ligament surgery on August 11 and was still walking with the help of a stick when the assault took place. He claimed that despite his fragile health, the accused repeatedly slapped, abused, and threatened Shikhar, even going as far as to intimidate his family.

Events Leading to the Assault
On the day of the incident, Shikhar was picked up by a female friend, Soumya Singh Yadav, in her vehicle near Hanhemann Chauraha on the way to classes. Upon reaching the university’s parking lot, the accused approached him, insisting they needed to talk. Shikhar and Soumya allowed them inside the car, where the group allegedly began verbally abusing him before escalating to physical assault.
Details From the Viral Video
The viral video shows a female student, identified as Jahnvi Mishra, seated in the front passenger seat, repeatedly slapping Shikhar on his left cheek while instructing him to keep his hands down. Each time he attempted to shield himself, she ordered him to drop his hands.
At one point, another student, believed to be Ayush Yadav, is seen aggressively pushing Shikhar’s arm away before slapping him on the opposite cheek. Throughout the video, Ayush hurls expletives and issues threats, warning Shikhar against speaking about Jahnvi or Soumya.
Despite one student, presumed to be the one recording, urging Ayush to stop since Shikhar had already apologised, the assault continued. The video shows Ayush instructing Aryaman Shukla to hold Shikhar’s hand so that he could hit him further. The attack finally ends only after repeated intervention from others in the group.
Allegations of Threats and Intimidation
The victim’s father further alleged that the attackers not only broke Shikhar’s mobile phone during the incident but also circulated the video across the campus to humiliate him. When Mukesh confronted the university authorities, he claimed the accused students threatened him as well, warning that he would face a similar assault if he continued to pursue the matter.
University Yet to Issue Statement
As of the time the FIR was lodged and reports filed, Amity University had not released an official statement regarding the incident. The silence has drawn criticism from students, parents, and the wider public, who are demanding accountability and stricter campus safety protocols.
Call for Strict Action
Mukesh Kesarwani has urged the police and university administration to take strict disciplinary and legal action against the accused students. He emphasised that his son has been left mentally scarred and is fearful of returning to campus.
The case is currently under investigation, with police examining the video evidence and student testimonies. The outcome of the probe is expected to have far-reaching consequences, not only for those directly involved but also for broader discussions on campus safety and student behaviour in higher education institutions.
