Prime Minister Narendra Modi fiercely defended Amit Shah on Wednesday against the Congress’ accusation that he insulted B R Ambedkar during his Rajya Sabha speech, claiming that the main opposition was “stung and stunned” by the Home Minister’s revelation of the party’s “dark history of insulting” the Constitution’s Architect.
“They are clearly stung and stunned by the facts he presented, which is why they are now indulging in theatrics. Sadly, for them, people know the truth,” Modi said in a series of posts. The Prime Minister declared that his government has the utmost respect and reverence for Ambedkar.
Attacking the Congress, Modi claimed that the party and its “rotten ecosystem” are seriously mistaken if they believe that their “malicious lies” will cover up their years’ worth of wrongdoing, particularly their taunts of Ambedkar.
He claimed that Indians had witnessed repeatedly how one party, headed by a single dynasty a reference to the Nehru-Gandhi family had used every possible dirty trick to destroy Ambedkar’s legacy and degrade the SC/ST populations.
The first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, campaigned against Ambedkar and made his defeat a prestige issue. He also denied him a Bharat Ratna and refused to allow his portrait to be displayed in Parliament’s Central Hall. These are just a few of the Congress’s transgressions against Ambedkar, according to the Prime Minister.
Accusing Congress Party, he said that they held onto power for years without taking any significant action to strengthen the SC and ST communities. Modi cited a number of actions his government has made to carry out Ambedkar’s vision and show appreciation for the legendary figure, saying that “we are what we are” because of him.
He claimed that throughout the past ten years, his government has put forth endless effort to realize Ambedkar’s vision.
“Take any sector be it removing 25 crore people from poverty, strengthening the SC/ST Act, our Government’s flagship programmes like Swachh Bharat, PM Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, Ujjwala Yojana and more, each of them has touched the lives of the poor and marginalised. Our Government has worked to develop Panchteerth, the five iconic places associated with Dr. Ambedkar,” he added.
