West Bengal Chief Minister made a visit to Sandeshkhali and warned people against the BJP’s “lies and money.” She stated that the BJP made many promises that turned out to be false.
Mamata visited Sandeshkhali to chair a public distribution program. Banerjee was there to give out the certificates to people who benefit from state-run schemes. During her speech she addressed the controversy surrounding TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan, who was accused of sexual harassment and land grabbing. They claimed that the allegations were politically driven.
The West Bengal CM also criticised the left party, calling them “the biggest devils” who have killed people. She promised the Sandeshkhali people that she would always be there to help and protect them as a ‘paharadar’.
Banerjee’s visit comes after TMC won the Basirhat seat in the Lok Sabha election amid the controversy of Sheikh Shahjahan and his two who were later suspended from the party and arrested on 29 February after evading the police for around 2 months.
Banerjee’s visit is being seen as a strategic move to reassure the people of Sandeshkhali that her government is committed to their well-being and will not be influenced by opposition parties’ attempts to create unrest in the region.
