Union Agriculture Minister, Shivraj Singh Chauhan said, that the government will purchase all farm produce at minimum support price while addressing the parliament in the Question Hour. Chauhan gave assurance while he was answering the issue of MSP to farmers.
“I want to assure the house through you that all produce of farmers will be purchased at minimum support price. This is the Modi government and the guarantee to fulfill Modi’s guarantee,” Chouhan told the house.

This assurance comes when farmers have already planned to embark on a foot march to Delhi with their demands. Countering opposition remarks, he claimed that when the opposition was in power, they were not in favor of acceptance of the M S Swaminathan Commission recommendations. He said that he has proof as a record that Congress was not keen, especially on giving 50 percent more than the cost of produce.

The minister stated that since 2019 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to calculate the minimum support price by giving 50 percent profit on cost of production to farmers. Already, paddy wheat, jowar, and soybean were being purchased at 50 percent above the cost of production from three years ago. He also cited intervention in changing export duties and prices whenever rates of commodities fall.
