On Saturday evening, in a address following the BJP’s electoral victory in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for its alleged involvement in corruption, particularly referencing the Delhi liquor scam.
Speaking at the BJP headquarters, Modi emphasized the party’s commitment to transparency and accountability, promising that a report from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) would be presented in the first session of the Assembly to investigate these corruption allegations.
Modi remarked on the irony of AAP’s origins, stating that the party was founded on the principles of combating corruption but has since become embroiled in corrupt practices.
He pointed out that the party’s leaders, who once vowed to reform politics, have failed to uphold their promises, culminating in the arrest of the Chief Minister on corruption charges.
“These AAP-da leaders had entered politics saying that they will change the field of politics. But their claims have been proven to be false,” Modi asserted.
The Prime Minister also expressed concern over the impact of the Delhi liquor scam on the city’s reputation, describing it as a stain on Delhi’s image. He urged the public to recognize the betrayal of trust by AAP leaders, who he claimed have insulted the beliefs of the people.
In addition to addressing corruption, Modi spoke about his vision for the Yamuna River, pledging to restore it as a symbol of Delhi’s identity.
He acknowledged the challenges ahead, likening the task to the long-term efforts to clean the Ganga River, which have been ongoing since the time of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
“I know this task is difficult, it will take a long time, no matter how long it takes, if there is determination, we will accomplish it,” he stated, reinforcing his commitment to environmental restoration.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a time when the BJP is looking to consolidate its power in Delhi, leveraging the recent electoral success to push for reforms and address public concerns over corruption and environmental issues.
PM Modi also stated that the country has lost trust in Congress, evident from their zero-seat performance in the Delhi assembly election 2025. This marks the sixth consecutive time Congress has failed to secure a seat in India’s capital.
Modi criticized Congress for being a “parasite” that not only declines itself but also harms its allies, stealing their issues and eroding their vote banks. He noted that Congress is systematically dismantling its alliances, one by one.
The AAP has bagged 22 seats, massively down from its tally of 62 in the 2020 Delhi poll, while BJP has won 48. Racing ahead in early trends shortly after the Election Commission commenced counting of votes at 8 am.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to retain its lead and has won 48 seats in total, according to the final Election Commission of India results of Delhi assembly election 2025. The BJP returned to power in Delhi after 27 years, ousting Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP government.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which narrowed gap briefly, has bagged 22 seats, much below the majority mark of 36 and its 2020 poll tally of 62.
Congress, which ruled Delhi for 15 years, failed to open its account in the last two assembly polls and has performed similarly this time as well, scoring zero.According to EC figures, the approximate voter turnout after the Delhi assembly election stood at 60.54 per cent.
BJP’s Parvesh Verma was the top nam among key winners of the Delhi assembly election, defeating AAP supremo and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal.
While most top guns of AAP failed to fire, party’s Atishi won the Kalkaji seat against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri. AAP leader Gopal Rai also won the Babarpur seat.
