‘Musical Genius’: PM Modi Remembers Mohammad Rafi On His 100th Birth Anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi reminisced legendary playback singer Mohammad Rafi on his 100th birth anniversary. Mohammad Rafi, a distinguished singer has etched his name in the history of Indian music through his remarkable achievements in the field.

PM Modi posted on X, “He was a musical genius whose cultural influence and impact transcends generations. Rafi Sahab’s songs are admired for their ability to capture different emotions and sentiments. His versatility was extensive as well. May his music keep adding joy in the lives of people!”

Padma Shri awardee Mohammad Rafi was born on December 24, 1924, had a very successful career. Rafi renowned for his versatility and vocal range left his mark by giving around 25,000 spectacular songs in a career of 40 years.

A public performance by Rafi in Lahore at the age of 15 years was the breakthrough moment of his career. Kicking off from his first solo song assignment, “Tera Khilona Toota Balak” in Anmol Ghadi 1946 till his last song “Tu Kahin Aas Paas Hai Dost” for Aas Paas 1981, Rafi has given numerable hits which are being cherished till now.

Composers such as S.D. Burman, Madan Mohan, O.P. Nayyar, and Shankar-Jaikishan Seized a valuable opportunity by working with him and giving multiple hits.

Some of his hit songs which can get everyone to groove at its beat includes ‘Likhe jo Khat Tujhe’, ‘Pardah Hai Pardah’, ‘Yeh Reshmi Zulfen’, ‘Tareef Karun Kya Uski’ among others.
