New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is all set to celebrate the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025 with large-scale public participation and multiple events across the city.
Vice Chairman of NDMC, Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal, announced that the Council will host yoga sessions at eight prominent locations on June 21, under the larger vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to promote yoga as a global wellness initiative.
Major Yoga Sessions at Eight Iconic Locations
NDMC will organize yoga sessions across the following eight key venues within its jurisdiction:
- Kartavya Path
- Lodhi Garden
- Talkatora Garden
- Shanti Path Lawns
- Central Park, Connaught Place
- Pandara Park
- New Moti Bagh (IAS Residences)
- Sanjay Jheel, Lakshmi Bai Nagar
These venues have been chosen for their accessibility and prominence, aiming to encourage maximum citizen involvement from all sections of society.
Participation Expected to Range Between 300 to 2000 Per Venue
The council anticipates participation from 300 to 2000 individuals at each venue. The attendees will include local residents, members of Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs), students, fitness enthusiasts, and volunteers from various yoga organizations.
Collaboration with Renowned Yoga Institutions
The events will be conducted in collaboration with major yoga organizations, including:
- Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga
- Art of Living
- Patanjali Yoga Samiti
- Gayatri Parivar
- Other recognized yoga groups
These institutions will provide trained instructors and ensure that all sessions follow standard yoga protocols.
Pre-IDY Build-Up Camps from June 18–20
To build momentum leading up to the main celebration, NDMC is hosting three-day yoga camps from June 18 to 20 at Lodhi Garden and Talkatora Garden. These preparatory camps, organized in partnership with Patanjali Yoga Samiti and Gayatri Parivar, aim to engage the community and promote regular yoga practice for physical and mental well-being.
Full Logistic Support and Digital Infrastructure
As in previous years, NDMC will offer comprehensive logistical arrangements at each venue. This includes:
- Distribution of yoga mats and T-shirts to participants
- Live streaming of the Prime Minister’s message
- Setup of digital branding and informative displays
- Sound systems and safety provisions
The Ministry of AYUSH will assist in coordinating trainers and institutional partnerships to ensure a seamless execution of events.
Promoting “Viksit Bharat @2047” Through Wellness
Vice Chairman Shri Kuljeet Singh Chahal emphasized that this initiative aligns with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047, which aims to build a developed India by its centenary year of independence. “A healthy and conscious population is essential for national progress. Through yoga, we are not only celebrating a tradition but also empowering our citizens with a tool for lifelong wellness,” he said.
An Open Call for Mass Participation
Shri Chahal urged all residents of New Delhi to join the celebration of International Day of Yoga and to adopt yoga as a daily practice. He emphasized that yoga nurtures physical strength, mental clarity, and spiritual balance the core elements of a healthy society.

Reiterating the significance of yoga as India’s contribution to the global wellness movement, Shri Chahal said, “Yoga is not just an exercise routine; it is a path to holistic health and inner peace. Our celebrations are a tribute to this invaluable heritage.”
With a strong turnout expected across all venues and extensive coordination between NDMC, AYUSH Ministry, and yoga organizations, this year’s International Day of Yoga promises to be one of the most vibrant celebrations yet in the heart of the capital.
