Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Thursday that the country would continue to defend itself despite the arrest order the International Criminal Court has issued against him for his actions during the Gaza War. Former defence minister Yoav Gallant has also been dragged over their conduct of the Gaza war.
The action follows the announcement on May 20 by ICC prosecutor Karim Khan that he was requesting arrest warrants for alleged crimes related to the October 7 Hamas strikes on Israel and the Israeli military response in Gaza. In a video statement he said, “No outrageous anti-Israel decision will prevent us – and it will not prevent me – from continuing to defend our country in every way. We will not yield to pressure.”
The Israeli prime minister referred to their decision as a “dark day in the history of nations” and claimed that the ICC, which was created to defend human rights, had turned into “an enemy of humanity.
The PM said how biased the ICC is against the State of Israel. He added that he rejected the court’s decision to issue arrest warrants for senior Israeli officials. This statement was made in light of the ICC’s accusations against Israel’s leaders and the US’s ongoing support for Israel.
