Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had a “very warm” phone conversation with US President-elect Donald Trump. Netanyahu emphasized Israel’s need for “victory” against Hamas and discussed the situation in Syria.
In a video statement, Netanyahu shared details of the call, which took place on Saturday evening. The two leaders discussed preventing Hezbollah from rearming and Israel’s conflict with Hamas, which has resulted in significant Palestinian casualties in Gaza.
Netanyahu and Trump also addressed the need to return remaining hostages in Gaza. Netanyahu described the conversation as “friendly, warm, and important.” He assured that Israel would continue working to bring home its hostages, both living and deceased.
Regarding Syria, Netanyahu clarified that Israel has no interest in conflict and will adapt its policies according to emerging realities. However, he condemned Syria for allowing Iran to arm Hezbollah through its territory.
Netanyahu warned Hezbollah and Iran that Israel would continue to act against them to prevent harm. This statement comes amid a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah after a 13-month conflict along Israel’s border with Lebanon.
During the conflict, Israeli forces killed several high-ranking Hezbollah commanders. Netanyahu’s comments reflect Israel’s ongoing concerns about regional security and its commitment to protecting its interests.
