Noida: Police Arrests Over 150 Farmers For Protesting

More than 160 protesting farmers has been arrested at the Dalit Prerna Sthal while holding a sit-in today. The protest was started on Monday when around 5000 farmers from various region of Uttar Pradesh gathered together.

The farmers are agitating against New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida), the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA). They are demanding 10 per cent of the land acquired by the government for developing and commercial purposes to be given as plots to them. Further, they are demanding a 64.7% rise in the compensation rate because of inflation.

Farmers has been arrested under Section 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Among the people who have been arrested includes their leaders like, Sukhbir Khalifa, the president of Bhartiya Kisan Parishad, Pawan Khatana, the state president of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Western Uttar Pradesh) among various farmers comprising women as well.
