The Supreme Court has reiterated its willingness to engage with protesting farmers, stating that its doors are always open to their concerns and demands. This comes after farmer leaders declined to interact with a court-appointed committee aimed at resolving the ongoing protests.

The court’s assurance was made in response to submissions by Punjab’s Advocate General, who informed the bench that farmers were unwilling to engage with the committee. The court clarified that farmers can directly approach the court with their grievances or demands.

Meanwhile, the health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who has been on a fast-unto-death for 23 days, remains a concern. The court has urged the Punjab government to ensure Dallewal receives proper medical aid.

Farmers have been protesting at the Punjab-Haryana border since February, demanding a legally binding minimum support price for crops, debt waiver, and other concessions. The protests have led to disruptions in rail and road services, with farmers calling for a ‘Punjab bandh’ on December 30.
