Pakistani troops fired unprovokedly on Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch area of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Security officials said that the Indian Army responded with a fierce retaliation that seriously damaged the Pakistani side.
In the Akhnoor area of Jammu district, two Indian soldiers were killed earlier in an IED explosion that was thought to have been set by terrorists close to the Line of Control.
Violations along the LoC have decreased since the ceasefire accord was restored on February 25, 2021. But according to officials, Pakistani troops opened fire on a forward post in the Tarkundi region without warning. The opposing forces suffered significant losses as a result of the Indian Army’s forceful response.
Officials stated that the enemy forces sustained “heavy casualties,” however it was not immediately clear how much damage had been done on Pakistan’s end. The report was neither verified nor refuted by the Indian Army.
Anwaar ul-Haq, a Pakistani politician, called for a jihad against India approximately a month prior to the ceasefire violation. He declared that in order to drive Indian forces out of Jammu and Kashmir, his government would use every resource at its disposal.
Meanwhile, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army stepped on a landmine by mistake and was slightly hurt. He received medical attention at a military hospital right away.
As hostile operations from the other side of the border have escalated over the last week, officials also pointed out that tensions along the LoC are still high. This was the fourth cross-border incident in the past five days and the first ceasefire violation of the year.
While keeping watch over a forward position in the Kalal region of the Nowshera sector, Rajouri district, on Monday, a soldier was wounded by cross-border gunfire.
Terrorists had earlier fired on an Indian Army patrol in Rajouri’s Keri area on February 8. According to reports, the terrorists were awaiting a chance to enter Indian Territory.
Infiltrating terrorists trying to enter India were damaged in the evening of February 4-5 by a landmine explosion in the Krishna Ghati region.
White Knight Corps General Officer Commanding (GOC) Lieutenant General Naveen Sachdeva assessed the situation along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri on February 10.
The Indian Army stated, “The GOC White Knight Corps, along with GOC Ace of Spades and GOC Crossed Swords Division, visited forward areas of the Rajouri sector to assess the current security situation and operational developments regarding Pakistani activities.”
