Pakistan Reports First Mpox Case Of 2025 At Peshawar Airport

A 35-year-old traveller arriving from Dubai to Bacha Golf International Airport in has been diagnosed with Mpox, becoming the first case of 2025 in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Province.

The patient was identified through thorough screening procedures at the Airport. The 35 year old was immediately transferred to the Police services Hospital for medical attention.

“We are ensuring effective measures to protect public from Mpox. All the airports has robust screening systems, and compliance with international health regulations is being ensured”, said health coordinator Mukhtar Bharth.

Pakhtunkhawa’ Health Advisor, Ehtesham Ali confirmed that a Public Health monitoring team has been dispatched to the airport to investigate. The team collected samples from the patient, the samples were sent to the public health reference lab for testing.

According to Ehtesham, a letter has been sent to Peshawar airport requesting the details of those who were in the close proximity of the patient as well as the details of patient. Once after recieving the passengers details the district’s health officer will be notified for contact tracing.

Latest case bring the total of 10 cases of Mpox reported in Khyber pakhtunkhawa province with two case in reported in 2023, seven in 2024, and one in 2025 however there is some confusion in the total number of cases with health ministry reporting 8 cases linked to virus in December last year.
