The Kremlin aide, Yury Ushakov, announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin has received an official invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to travel to India, with dates to be determined in early 2025.
During a briefing Ushakov said that according to the Russian Embassy in India, Putin and Prime Minister Modi have agreed to meet once a year and that this time it is Russia’s turn. It reported that the two leaders have always been in touch and this year, the two leaders met twice as PM Modi in July travelled to Moscow to participate in the 22nd Russia-India summit.
Sources reveal that PM Modi held a bilateral meeting and an informal meeting with Putin. The two leaders also visited the Rosatom Pavilion at the VDNKh Exhibition Centre in Moscow. When Modi visited Kyiv in August, he met with Vlodomyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, and asked him to meet with Putin in order to “find a way out of the crisis.”
This will be Putin’s first visit to India since the beginning of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia in 2022. India has consistently supported “peace and diplomacy” as a means of settling the crisis between Russia and Ukraine.
India has continuously maintained a neutral position in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, prioritizing diplomacy and a peaceful settlement above intervention. India’s long-standing non-interference policy and dedication to world peace serve as the foundation for this strategy.
