PM Modi Receives Guard Of Honor, Praises Ties With Gulf

PM highlighted the prospects of bilateral cooperation between both countries in areas like pharmaceutical, health and technology.

On the second day of the 2-day visit to Kuwait, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been bestowed with an honorary greeting and Guard of Honour. The Prime Minister was welcomed with a ceremonial greeting by HH Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmed Al-Sabah, PM of Kuwait.

This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in the last 43 years. The last Prime Minister to visit Kuwait was Indira Gandhi in 1981. Modi also highlighted the prospects of bilateral cooperation between both countries in areas like pharmaceutical, health and technology. He wrote on X, “Our strong relations extend across energy, trade and investments. We also have a vibrant Indian diaspora strengthening the friendship further.”

On reaching Kuwait, the Prime Minister met the Indian diaspora and also met Indian workers at the Mina Abdullah. Indians constitute 21 per cent of the total population of Kuwait and 30 per cent of its total workforce.

Prime Minister met book publishers Abdullah Al-Baroun and Abdul Lateef Al-Nesef for have published Ramayana and Mahabharata in Arabic version. He called it an initiative to globally highlight the popularity of Indian culture.

Modi later attended the opening ceremony of the Arabian Gulf Cup on the invitation of His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait to celebrate the spirit of football in the region.
