US President Donald Trump has invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit the White House next week, according to a White House official, following their recent discussion on immigration and trade.
On January 27, Donald Trump and Prime Minister Modi had a phone conversation. In his remarks on immigration, the US president emphasized the significance of India purchasing more security equipment manufactured in the United States.
Following the phone conversation, PM Modi wrote on social media to congratulate his “dear friend” on his second term in office. “We are committed to a mutually beneficial and trusted partnership. We will work together for the welfare of our people and towards global peace, prosperity, and security,” he said.
The PM’s anticipated trip to the US is scheduled for February 12–14. The Indian Prime Minister’s visit occurs very early in the new US administration’s tenure. After Jordan’s King Abdullah II meets US President Trump on February 11th and Israel’s Prime Minister Netanyahu is the first leader to meet Trump, PM Modi is actually one of the first foreign leaders to meet Trump in the White House.
Since the results of the US election in November 2024, PM Modi and Donald Trump have spoken thrice, the most recent being on January 27.
The two Presidents talked about regional security problems in the Indo-Pacific, Middle East, and Europe as well as their commitment to a closer collaboration between their nations during their January meeting. Trump emphasized “fair trade” and increasing purchases of US security equipment during their discussion of bilateral trade and defense cooperation.
The White House said, “Both leaders emphasised their commitment to advance the U.S.-India strategic partnership and the Indo-Pacific Quad partnership, with India hosting Quad Leaders for the first time later this year.”
Additionally, the call prepared the ground for Modi’s planned February 2025 visit to the United States. According to the White House readout, the leaders discussed plans for Prime Minister Modi to visit the White House, underscoring the strength of the friendship and strategic ties between our nations.
