US President Biden celebrated the overthrow of Syria’s despot, calling it a “fundamental act of justice,” and he took some credit for his own policies. However, President Biden is keen on dealing with the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, despite the fact that it is still classified as a terrorist organization by the United States. In fact, this is the fundamental challenge for him to deal with.

“Make no mistake, some of the rebel groups that took down Assad have their own grim record of terrorism and human rights abuses,” he said. U.S. policymakers continue to have serious concerns about the Islamic State, or ISIS. The United States does not want to allow the organization to re-establish itself amid the chaos that could ensue from the overthrow of the Damascus government, after having destroyed the so-called caliphate it had established in Syria and Iraq.

Joe Biden has provided a blueprint outlining the United States’ post-civil war support for Syria. It says that the US will support Syria’s neighbours, including Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Israel, should any threat arise from Syria during this period of transition.

In addition, they will be protecting the US personnel against any threats, and their mission against ISIS will be maintained, including security of detention facilities.

The United States would work with all Syrian factions, including through the UN-led process to create a transition to develop an independent and sovereign Syria with a new constitution and a government that works for all Syrians. And let the Syrian people themselves decide this procedure.
