A group of individuals from the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) vandalized Telugu actor Allu Arjun’s home in Hyderabad on Sunday.
The protestors were demanding justice for a woman named Revathi, who died in a stampede at a movie theatre on 4th December while Allu Arjun was promoting his movie ‘Pushpa 2’. The protestors climbed over the property’s boundary wall, pelted tomatoes, and damaged flower pots and ornamental plants while shouting slogans.
The stampede occurred on 4th December at Sandhya Theatre, Hyderabad, when Allu Arjun attended the premiere of Pushpa 2. A massive crowd gathered, and the situation escalated out of hand when Allu Arjun waved to fans from the sunroof of his vehicle, leading to the death of a woman.
Following the incident, Allu Arjun was arrested but released the next day after being granted bail by the Telangana High Court with a settlement of Rs 50,000 bond.
The protectors sought justice for the victim’s family. They are demanding compensation to be given to the victim’s family and criticised the actor’s lack of responsibility over the incident.
On 20th December, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy criticised Allu Arjun for attending the event despite police withholding permission for the film cast to visit the venue. In response, Allu Arjun organised a press conference to deny the accusations made by Reddy and said that “the police officer facilitated his arrival”.
In defence of his roadshow and engaging with the crowd, the actor said, “he was merely following police’s instructions and would have returned if instructed to do so”.
The incident has sparked debate about celebrity responsibility in crowd management and public safety. An investigation is still going on.
