Russia indicated its readiness to engage in dialogue with the United States claiming the Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready for talks but is waiting for signals from the US President Donald Trump.
Trump through a post on Truth Social and then in a virtual address at the World Economic Forum (WEF) expressed his willingness to meet Putin to bring the Russia- Ukraine war to a close and work towards cutting nuclear arms.
Addressing the issue, Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated “Putin is ready” and Russia is “waiting for signals” from the Trump administration. However, he mentioned it to be difficult to read the coffee grounds.
In addition, while addressing Trump’s demand to Saudi Arabia and OPEC to lower prices to speed the end of the war, Peskov clarified the cause of the war to be independent of the oil prices. He specified the reason behind the war to be “threats to Russia’s national security” and “threats to Russians” living in Ukraine, along with the lack of desire and complete refusal of Americans and Europeans to listen to Russia’s concerns.
Regarding the peace deal with Ukraine, Peskov shared Russia’s eagerness to end the war and blamed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s 2022 decree to rule out any negotiations with Putin.
Earlier in a post on Truth Social, Trump advised Russia to end the war soon to escape from the economic sanctions to be posed by the US in terms of high levels of taxes, tariffs, and sanctions on anything being sold by Russia to the United States, and various other participating countries.
