On Thursday, BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi and the leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi exchanged accusations of assault during the protest over Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr. BR Ambedkar. Both of them alleged physical confrontation.

In his defense, Rahul Gandhi said that he was standing near the entrance where the BJP MPs, who were countering protests by INDIA bloc MPs on Amit Shah’s Ambedkar remarks, were blocking his way. “They were pushing me and threatening me,” he said.

The chaos began with BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi claiming that Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi pushed an MP, who eventually fell on him, causing him injuries. “I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed an MP who then fell on me,” Sarangi told the media as he was being taken to a hospital. He added that the incident led to him falling as well.

As political drama escalated, representatives from both BJP and Congress reached police offices in the national capital. A BJP delegation reached the Deputy Commissioner of the Police office, while a large Congress delegation visited the Assistant Commissioner of Police’s office on Parliament Street.

BJP leader Anurag Thakur said that a police complaint has been lodged against Rahul Gandhi under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including that of attempted murder.
