Rahul Gandhi, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, expressed alarm on Friday about the increase in new voters, pointing out that 39 lakh new voters were registered in just five months following the Lok Sabha elections, especially between the 2024 Maharashtra Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections.

Rahul Gandhi, together with Maha Vikas Aghadi partners Sanjay Raut and Supriya Sule, addressed a press conference at the Constitution Club in Delhi. Rahul Gandhi also questioned disparities in voter registration numbers, asserting that there were more registered voters than there were adults in Maharashtra.

Rahul said, “We represent on this table – the entire opposition that fought the last election in Maharashtra. We are going to bring some information about the election. We studied the details – the voters and the voting list. Our teams have been working, and we have found many irregularities.”

The Congress leader cited the figures, claiming that a startling 39 lakh voters were added to the rolls in the five months between the Lok Sabha elections and the next Vidhan Sabha elections, whereas 32 lakh voters were added over the course of five years between the 2019 Vidhan Sabha elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“The question is, who are these 39 lakh voters? That is equivalent to the total number of voters of Himachal Pradesh. The second point is, why are there more voters in Maharashtra than the entire voting population of the state? Somehow, the voters have been suddenly created in Maharashtra,” he alleged.

Rahul also charged that the Election Commission had disregarded his numerous requests to look into the irregularities. “We have been pointing out irregularities to the Election Commission. We require the voter list, which includes the names and addresses of Maharashtra’s voters. We require the Lok Sabha election voter list. The Vidhan Sabha election voter list is required. He stated, “Because we want to know exactly who these new additions are.”

Additionally, he said that a large number of voters had been removed or moved to other voting places, especially those from minority, tribal, and Dalit communities. “The number of voters who have been removed is enormous. Some voters have been moved from one booth to another. The majority of these voters are members of minority, tribal, and Dalit communities, Rahul stated.

He alleged that the Election commission has not made answers in spite of several requests. The ECI wrote in a post on social media in response to Rahul’s comments. The Commission would reply in writing with a comprehensive factual and procedural matrix that is consistently used nationwide.

“The Election Commission has categorically replied to all the questions,” Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in response to Rahul Gandhi’s accusations. Rahul Gandhi is engaging in cover fire because he is aware that his party would not be present in Delhi following the outcome of the February 8 election.

As a result, he is preparing his speech and his new narrative for that day. Rahul Gandhi cannot bring his party back to life if he does not reflect and keeps telling himself lies. Rahul Gandhi ought to reflect on his loss.
