Southern California, devastated by lethal blazes, could get rainfall this weekend, offering solace from dry conditions but raising worries over toxic ash runoff and mudslides.
A 60% to 80% chance of precipitation is forecast to start on Saturday, with amounts spanning from a third of an inch to an inch, as per the National Weather Service. Meteorologist Ryan Kittell highlighted that while the rainfall could provide relief from the fire risks, it might stimulate debris flows in charred areas.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued an order on Tuesday to moderate post-fire environmental risks. Crews were instructed to stabilise hillsides, install barriers, and clear debris to avoid mudslides and protect water sources.
