Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his willingness to compromise with Ukraine in potential talks with US President-elect Donald Trump, in an effort to bring an end to the ongoing war. Putin made this statement during his annual question-and-answer session with Russians, where he fielded questions from various reporters, including one from a US news channel.
Putin emphasized that Russia has always been open to negotiations and compromises. He also dismissed the idea that Russia is in a weak position, stating that the country has grown stronger since he ordered troops into Ukraine in 2022. Putin expressed his readiness to meet with Trump, with whom he has not spoken in years.
However, Putin also made it clear that any deal with Ukraine would need to be long-lasting and would require Ukraine to abandon its ambitions to join NATO. He also stated that Russia has no conditions for starting talks with Ukraine and is ready to negotiate with anyone, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
Putin’s statement has sparked hopes for a potential resolution to the conflict, which has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and displaced millions of people.
