Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh on Thursday dismissed the INDIA bloc’s notice seeking the removal of Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar claiming it to be drawn in haste to mar Dhankar’s reputation.
This petition was moved by the INDIA bloc on denial of the permission of the notices by opposition members to adjourn the house and discuss key issues including violence in Manipur and the Sambhal and Adani case among others.
The ruling was tabled in the house by Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Mody where the deputy chairman conferred the impeachment to defame the nation’s constitutional institutions and malign the Vice president’s position.
He also called it a ‘misadventure’ in ‘deliberate trivializing and demeaning’ of the reputed constitutional position of the Vice President of the largest democracy in the world.
Around 60 members had signed the petition for removal of Dhankar alleging him to be biased. The deputy chairman professed it to be a personally targeted notice without the support of any concrete fact.
